Street-Style Shrimp Tacos
Chili-lime shrimp seared hot, piled into warm corn tortillas with a crunchy yogurt-lime slaw and a crumble of feta. The sister recipe to our Baja fish tacos: faster, punchier, and two tacos land at 335 calories with 39 grams of protein.
Method
-
Whisk the yogurt, mayo, and the juice of one lime, then toss two-thirds of it with the slaw mix and half the cilantro. Set aside.
-
Toss the dried shrimp with the chili powder, cumin, smoked paprika, garlic powder, and salt.
-
Sear the shrimp in the oil over high heat, 1 to 2 minutes a side, until pink with charred spice edges.
💡 Tip: One layer, screaming pan. Crowding turns searing into steaming. -
Build each taco: warm tortilla, slaw, shrimp, a drizzle of the reserved dressing, feta, and cilantro.
-
Serve with lime wedges and hot sauce on the table.
Notes
Shrimp cook in minutes and overcook in seconds. Pull them the moment they turn pink and curl.
Dry shrimp sear; wet shrimp stew. Paper towels first, always.
The slaw improves with 10 minutes of sitting, so make it before the shrimp touch the pan.
Avocado is a great addition — weigh and track it, it is not in the macros.

Frequently Asked Questions
What makes these different from the Baja fish tacos?
Speed and spice. The fish version is a blackened fillet that flakes into the taco; these are whole spiced shrimp with a sharper chili-lime profile, done in five minutes of cooking. Between the two you have the full taqueria seafood board covered.
Can I use frozen shrimp?
Frozen is often the better product. Thaw fully in the fridge or under cold water, then dry them harder than feels necessary — surface water is the only thing standing between you and a proper sear.
How do the macros compare to restaurant shrimp tacos?
Restaurant versions batter and fry the shrimp and dress the slaw in straight mayo, landing around 300 calories per taco. These run about 170 each because the shrimp sear in a teaspoon of oil and the slaw runs on Greek yogurt.
