How to Do the Box Step Over
- Stand facing a sturdy box at a height where your knee sits at or below your hip when your foot is on it.
- Step up with one foot and drive through that heel to bring your whole body on top of the box.
- Stand tall on the box, then step down the other side under control.
- Turn around and repeat, leading with the opposite leg.
- Alternate the leading leg each pass so both sides do equal work.
- Keep the pace controlled. Smooth and quiet beats fast and sloppy.

Do This
Form Cues
- Step up fully onto the box and stand tall before stepping over.
- Drive through the heel of the stepping foot, not the toes.
- Keep the chest up and the torso quiet.
- Make the top leg do everything. The trailing foot should leave the floor with nothing left to give.
Avoid This
Common Mistakes
- Pushing off the trailing foot to help you up.
- Choosing a box so high that the knee has to travel way past the toes.
- Dropping down the far side rather than stepping under control.
- Dropping off the far side of the box instead of stepping down, which hammers the knees over a long session.
