How to Do the Seated Dumbbell Leg Extension
- Sit on the edge of a bench tall enough that your feet hang clear of the floor.
- Grip a dumbbell vertically between your feet, squeezing it firmly.
- Hold the bench edges for support and sit tall.
- Extend your knees until your legs are straight, keeping thighs on the bench.
- Pause for a full second at the top, squeezing the quads hard.
- Lower over two to three seconds and repeat without letting the dumbbell rest.

Form Cues
- Grip the dumbbell between the feet and keep the ankles tight.
- Extend until the leg is straight and pause for a beat.
- Keep the thigh flat on the bench throughout.
- When the dumbbell maxes out, slow the lowering phase and lengthen the pause instead of adding swing.
Avoid This
Common Mistakes
- Swinging the leg up and letting it drop.
- Leaning back to help the weight through the top.
- Letting the thigh lift off the bench at full extension.
- Choosing a bench so low that the floor cuts off the bottom half of the range.
