How to Do the Dumbbell Cuban Press
- Stand holding light dumbbells at your thighs, palms facing back.
- Row the dumbbells up until your upper arms are parallel with the floor, elbows bent to 90 degrees.
- From there, rotate your forearms up and back until your knuckles point at the ceiling.
- Keep the upper arms level throughout the rotation.
- Press the dumbbells overhead to straight arms.
- Reverse each phase in order on the way down: lower to the rotated position, rotate forward and down, then lower the row.

Form Cues
- Start with an upright row to elbow height, then rotate, then press.
- Keep the upper arms level with the floor through the rotation.
- Use light dumbbells. This is a shoulder health drill.
- The rotation is the exercise. Give it two slow seconds each way and let the row and press be bookends.
Avoid This
Common Mistakes
- Rushing the rotation, which is the part that actually matters.
- Letting the elbows drop below the wrists during the rotation.
- Loading it like a shoulder press.
- Skipping straight from the row to the press when the weight is too heavy to rotate under control.
